Montgomery County Homelessness Task Force Shares Mixed Reviews of Progress with Complex Issues

Members of the Montgomery County homelessness task force shared mixed reviews of progress in dealing with complex issues during the latest meeting, writes Rachel Ravina for the Main Line Times & Suburban.

The 46-member body consists of community members, individuals who have experienced homelessness, and others from advocacy, education, government, and religious spaces.

They have joined forces to tackle the issue of homelessness in the state’s third most populous county at a time when it appears to have reached a breaking point.

“The importance I think of stating the scope of the problem is so everybody knows the urgency of it, and also has information about it,” said Mark Boorse, a task force member and Access Services’ director of program development.

“Not everybody understands how significant or how much of a crisis this actually is.”

He emphasized that the largest and only shelter for single adults in Montgomery County, the Coordinated Homeless Outreach Center situated on the grounds of the Norristown State Hospital closed last June, making an already dire situation even worse.
