Gilbertsville, Montgomery County will soon have a new hospital, Lehigh Valley Health Network has announced.

The health system has started construction on new facility that will help meet the need for more accessible and convenient ER and inpatient care.

Expected to open by fall of 2024, the Gilbertville hospital will be Lehigh Valley Health Network’s first in Montgomery County. The new campus will also include a medical office building, the Health Center at Gilbertsville, which will open at the same time.

The state-of-the-art facility is being built on land at Route 100 and Grosser Road, near the Wawa and gas station.

“LVH-Gilbertsville and the Health Center at Gilbertsville will give residents more convenient access to emergency and hospital-level care, along with robust ambulatory services located closer to where they live, work and play. Easy access can improve patient engagement and help individuals live their healthiest lives,” said Brian Nester, president and chief executive officer of Lehigh Valley Health Network.

The new hospital, designed using the neighborhood hospital model, will be smaller than other hospitals in the network, but will still offer 24-hour, 7 day a week care.

Patients will have access to lab, imaging, and pharmacy services both inpatient and outpatient. And the Health Center at Gilbertsville will cover a variety of medical services, including Lehigh Valley Physician Group primary care and pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, rheumatology, physiatry, cardiology, cardiac and nuclear testing, breast health services, adult and pediatric rehabilitation and cardiac rehabilitation.

Dr. David Burmeister, chair of the department of Emergency and Hospital Medicine at Lehigh Valley Health Network, explained that the neighborhood hospital model allows for short ER wait times and more convenient door-to-discharge times.
