Firstrust Bank CEO and President Tim Abell, along with 17 other executives from Philadelphia’s Hometown Bank, recently traded home loan mortgages for home building tools, as they volunteered with Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia to frame the first story of a home in Coltrane Commons.

Coltrane Commons is an affordable housing community in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city. The 21-unit development is located along North 33rd Street, near the former home of jazz legend John Coltrane.

This framing day was just one piece of Firstrust’s commitment to Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia. The bank is also an ambassador for Habitat Philadelphia’s new ReStore, having donated $25,000 to the recently opened store on West Allegheny Avenue.

“Firstrust is a special bank with a professional, caring, and motivated team that is passionate about our customers and their success, and the well-being of the communities we serve,” Abell said.

Some of the Firstrust executives who joined Abell in volunteering at Coltrane Commons included:

“I think seeing our senior management picking up a hammer and volunteering in the community sends a very powerful message,” said Ellensworth, also a board member at Habitat who grew up not far from the Coltrane Commons site in Olney. “Having those boots on the ground demonstrates Firstrust’s commitment to nonprofits and helping out in the community.”

Habitat Philadelphia transforms lives and the city by building and repairing quality homes in partnership with families in need and by uniting all Philadelphians around the cause of affordable housing.

The nonprofit has built or repaired nearly 1,000 homes in the city. The 21 homes at Coltrane Commons include single, duplex, and triplex units to accommodate diverse family types and will provide a path to homeownership and generational wealth for local families.
