Montgomery County First Responders Rescue Deer from Schuylkill Canal Near Mont Clare

By

6abc has reported that a crew of first responders saved a deer that had accidentally plunged into the waters of the Schuylkill Canal in Upper Providence Township.

The news reached the television station via a Facebook post from Upper Providence Township Fire & Emergency Services.

Its personnel was dispatched from the Upper Providence Township Police Department — along with a Montgomery County Park Ranger — to Lock 60 at the Schulykill Canal Park, near Mont Clare.

The animal had somehow become trapped between two of the locks onsite.

Rescue personnel entered the water dressed in appropriate gear against the cold and removed the endangered deer.

They warmed her with blankets, relieving her shivers of distress. A Pennsylvania Game Commission warden checked the doe, declared it to be okay, and authorized its release in a nearby wooded area.

The Facebook post commended all rescue personnel on the joint effort.
