While cross country running is normally a battle between competitors and the elements, it does not usually include members of animal kingdom joining the fray, writes Justin Heinze for Patch.

However, while Justin DeLuzio from Gwynedd Mercy University was competing in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional championships in Center Valley, several deer decided to charge the line of runners.

A coach noticed the animals and yelled “Watch out for the deer!” but it was already too late, as one of the deer crashed into DeLuzio, throwing him up in the air.

But that did not deter the runner, who promptly got up and proceeded to finish the 8k race in 31:16.
