A nearby Mount Airy seventh grader is a savant who’s zipped through almost every book in the Montgomery County library system. Homeschooled 12-year-old Mozi Weingrod has a lot of impressive talents, one of which is his knife-sharpening business.

Weingrod’s real passion, however, is woodworking. At just ten years old, he built himself a kayak, using proceeds from the small business he runs in his parents’ basement to fund took purchases.

Weingrod’s service so far has 20 clients, one of which is Mordechai Schram, a chef and pickle maker.

“He’s an artisan, the best knife-sharpener I’ve ever used. I go to him every three months. My knives now are impeccable, spectacular, maintaining their sharpness longer than they ever did before,” he told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Weingrod ’s passion stems from his father, who in addition to being a musician, composer, and music educator, also makes wooden sculptures.

While he’s not running his own business, Weingrod likes to play ultimate Frisbee and read books about World War II.

Money isn’t at the forefront of his career goals. Instead, he wants to “live off the grid” when he grows up.
