Hope's Cookies, Bryn Mawr, excels at both traditional and gluten-free cookies.

The Main Line Today editorial staff members embarked on a recent quest involving area bakeries. They were in search of an answer to the question: Do gluten-free sweets like cookies and cakes sacrifice taste in their use of flour-free recipes?

And the answer came back a resounding No.

The publication gathered a local list of bakeries that are successfully crafting gluten-free cookies, cakes, and desserts that are concurrently decadent and safe.

The Bakery House, 604 W. Lancaster Avenue in Bryn Mawr, for instance, makes exquisite chocolate chip cookies and brownies that fit celiac-safe diets. The bakers’ skill there is so renowned, the shop is a 2022 Best of Main Line winner for its custom cookies.

A mere 10 blocks west from The Bakery House is another standout in the gluten-free dessert niche: Hope’s Cookies, at 1125 W. Lancaster Avenue, also in Bryn Mawr. The must-try list here includes chocolate chip cookies and snickerdoodles.

A final recommendation is the chain of Nothing Bundt Cakes stores; the Montgomery County versions are:

Most of its product line — standard bundt cakes, mini buntlets, buntinis — can be made gluten-free style.

Further recommendations of gluten-free desserts are at Main Line Today.
