An East Norriton woman is encouraging people to be more selfish, but not in the way one might think.

Meghan Weisheipl was an overachiever all her life. She was a star basketball player in high school, grew up to be a winner of the Best Overall Professional Model in 2000, became a branch manager at a mortgage company, and is raising two children, writes Burton Cole for the Tribune Chronicle.

However, Weisheipl noticed that she wasn’t carving out the time of the day to take care of herself.

“On the outside, I lived the perfect life. I had everything — a wonderful husband, a good income, two beautiful girls, a house… but I lost myself in the process of doing that,” she said.

It wasn’t until an evening tiff with her husband that prompted the question “Why do you act like that?” that Weisheipl started to make changes.

Her new book, the “Selfish Hour” talks about what she did to get rid of negative feelings and look inward. Weisheipl suggests dedicating at least 60 minutes every morning to journaling and meditation.

“I redefined selfish to mean taking care of oneself first, and filling your cup so you can pour more into others. Being selfish means you care so much about others that you put yourself first to be your best for yourself and everyone else,” she says.

Weisheipl is now a certified life coach. She’s developing a six-week online coaching program to teach people “how to create their own selfish hour,” that will be released on her website.
