Montco StoryWalk — an outdoor series of signs containing a narrative to be read at a location by strolling visitors — celebrated its second year of its Montgomery County installation. In noting the anniversary, its coordinators launched a countywide contest to seek new stories to display.

Entrants were gathered in two categories by age, 17 and under and 18 and up. Three winners were selected from the two divisions, yielding six new tales for installation.

The 17-and-under celebrated works and their authors are:

  • “The Nature Walk” by Cece Breen
  • “Caring for Nature” by Kate Matthews
  • “The Hike Up the Mountain” by Teresa Haynie

The selected stories in the 18-and-over group are:

  • “My Incredibly Cozy Cocoon,” by Susan Morey
  • “Rescuing Remy,” by Rachel Janssen
  • “The Wild Adventures of the Three Bears,” by Jennifer Riordan

StoryWalk encounters have been woven into the landscape of three area sites: Norristown Farm Park (Upper Farm Road, East Norriton), Trail Junction Center (76 E. Lafayette Street. Norristown), and Pennypacker Mills (5 Haldeman Road, Schwenksville).

Kristi Goodwin, representing her fellow StoryWalk competition judges said, “We had entries from authors between the ages of 6 and 73, with original content and artwork. …We truly appreciate the time everyone put into their work and allowing us to share it.”

Full details on Montco StoryWalk are at the county’s press release repository.
