Harleysville athlete Tyler Currier returned to his Maine ski school alma mater as a member of the team’s entry in an international competition. The Sun Journal, a Lewiston, Maine, newspaper, ran the story.

The team from Carrabasset Valley Academy (CVA), from which Currier graduated in 2022, is presently in San Pellegrino, Italy. There, he and fellow competitors are vying in the 2023 International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Ski Cross World Junior Championships.

The meet is an important bench-marking event with implications for skiers who do well — and those who do not.

Winners at the World Junior Championships often advance to increasingly competitive international competitions in search of the sport’s World Cup.

CVA Head Coach Michael Phelan, will be supporting his young participants — including Currier — by representing both Team USA and Team Belgium.

“As first-year FIS athletes, at 16–17 years old, making Junior Worlds is truly an accomplishment,” said Phelan. “I am so proud of my team [and] what they have accomplished so far this season … .”

More on Tyler Currie and his adrenaline-rush sport of choice is at the Sun Journal.
