Rapper-Comedian-Actor from Elkins Park Promotes Season Three of His Streaming Series

By

Dave Burd was born in Elkins Park and graduated from Cheltenham High School, but he’s gained worldwide fame as rapper Lil Dicky. 6abc reporter Sandy Kenyon connected with Burd on the a promotional tour for his streaming series, Dave, noting the comedy’s run on FXX and Hulu.

Burd started rapping as a child.

After graduating from the University of Michigan, he got a job with a San Francisco advertising agency. There, he began weaving his music interests into his work, and before long, he redirected his career to rap.

The name behind the Lil Dicky persona came from a source reasons he suggests might be self-explanatory. “I wanted my stage name to really encapsulate my core truth which is: I’m an insecure, neurotic person,” he said.

From it evolved Dave, a semi-autobiographical show about a twentysomething who is convinced he’s one of the world’s greatest rappers.

“I want [people] to watch the show and see how I face my insecurities. And then maybe that can encourage them to face their own insecurities in a different way,” Burd concluded.

More on Dave Burd, and Dave, is at 6abc.
