The Philadelphia region has a much-lauded dining scene, with many award-winning restaurants and bars, writes Visit Philadelphia.

However, determined adventurers who are looking for something different can also find a true treasure trove of secret, underground, or otherwise hidden spots that can make for a memorable outing — provided they manage to find them.

One such place is Char & Stave in Ardmore.

The combination of a coffee shop and a bourbon bar was created by Phoenixville-based Bluebird Distilling founder Jared Adkins, a whiskey-making expert.

It opened last year, and it offers its own house-roasted coffee that has been aged in whiskey and bourbon oak barrels. It also sources and roasts premium beans from around the globe.

The hybrid location also features creative, primarily coffee-inspired cocktails that are created using Bluebird Distilling’s small-batch spirits and artisan coffee.

And for those who like to be entertained while they are enjoying a drink, the spot has live music and weekly quizzes.
