The latest decision on the proposal is a mixed bag.

The revised high-school school day will last from 8:40 AM to 3:30 PM. But that timeline won’t kick in until Sept. 2024.

Particulars on elementary and middle-school hours are still being ironed out; however, the commitment is in place to end all students’ days by 4 PM.

A communication from acting school superintendent Megan Shafer read: “… [S]chool start times are one of many ways we are addressing student safety, mental, and physical wellness, and sense of belonging.

“While we plan to operationalize a new schedule for September 2024, we will also work on initiatives [that include] educating students and families about healthy sleep habits, managing screen time, maintaining healthy diets and exercise routines, and practicing mindfulness.”

The school board hopes to finalize its start-time plan later this year.
