Wake up! The visitors are returning!

Elmwood Park Zoo has been in something of a hibernation for the past 90 days or so.

Not that the site has been asleep; in fact, it’s been quite busy. A significant renovation has been rising there. And as reported by Main Line Media News, the Mar. 18 awakening is certainly good news for Montgomery County animal lovers.

The Norristown attraction, a family favorite since 1924, shuttered to launch a significant renovation whose scope would have interfered with the visitor experience.

In addition, there were safety concerns for the public — and the animals. The gates were therefore closed.

Now, however, they’re being unlocked at 10 a.m. for today’s opening.

And although some limitations remain (Monday and Tuesday closures, for example), the giraffes, eagles, frogs, owls, alpacas, and bison are eager to greet returning visitors.

Work is ongoing at the zoo as it continues construction of a new veterinary facility.

That project at the front entrance is not quite ready to welcome visitors. But a new path is in place to allow entry.

Full information on visiting Elmwood Park Zoo as it continues its refresh — including ticket details for members and nonmembers — is at Main Line Media News.
