Phoenixville Ukrainians Prepare to Mark Anniversary of Russian War Against Ukraine
Ukrainians in the Phoenixville area are preparing to mark the anniversary of the Russian war against Ukraine with services, vigils, and other special events, writes Holly Herman for the Phoenixville Patch.
“We are marking the one-year anniversary,” said Vera M. Andryczyk, a member of the Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Phoenixville. “The war is unresolved. Putin cannot be permitted to win.”
The Russians invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022. From day one, the Ukrainian community in the Phoenixville area started organizing and finding ways to deliver food, funds, and support to the Ukrainians.
“Every day we wake up we brace ourselves,” said Andryczyk. “Today, there are people being held hostage in basements.”
On Feb. 26, Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church will hold a commemoration for the anniversary. A special Moleben-prayer service will be conducted by Very Rev. Ihor Royik. A short “Stand with Ukraine” program that will mark the anniversary of the war will follow. The public is welcome to attend.
“We honor the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people,” said Andryczyk.
