Montco. Chesco. Delco. Bucksco. Whose Residents’ Life Expectancies Are Longest?
A recent Stacker analysis, augmented by data from the University of Wisconsin, revealed life expectancy data on a region-by-region basis.
On the macro level, Americans’ number of golden years rose by roughly a decade in the 1960–2019 span, registering now at an average life of 79 years.
Greater longevity can be attributed to improved health care, as well as lifestyle shifts away from smoking, obesity, and alcohol consumption.
Within Pennsylvania, Montgomery County ranked No. 5 in the list of geographies conducive to a long life.
The drill-down to that assessment shows:
- Average Montco life expectancy: 80.5 years, 2.5 more than the statewide average
- Health outcomes rank: No. 4
- Length of life rank: No. 5
- Quality of life rank: No. 2
The No. 1 county for long-term well-being in the Keystone State is Centre County, whose major metropolitan area is State College.
From the state’s total of 67 counties, Moncto’s neighbors rated as follows:
- Chester County, No. 3
- Bucks County, No. 11
- Delaware County, No. 32
