North Penn School District is using an app called Here Comes the Bus to assure parents of their kids daily safe commute to/from school. Jaccii Farris onboarded the story for WFMZ 69 News.

The app confirms that riders are still on board and sends notice when the vehicle reaches one mile from its destination.

Grant funding covered the cost of the technology on the district’s entire fleet of 128 buses.

Oak Park Elementary School, Lansdale, is a current user. Parents find it helpful to their schedules and calming to their concerns about safety on the way to school.

“It saves a lot of time,” said dad Kanchan Singh. “This has been very helpful for us, especially in this cold winter.”

The upside for North Penn School District is a reduction — by about half — in calls from parents seeking to verify that their children have safely arrived for class.

Oak Park principal Jonathan Winkle says that uneventful school commutes are a good foundation to learning.

“The bus ride to school is that first step getting into the school, and we want to make it the best experience possible,” he said. \
