Toys R Us, and corporate mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe, are returning to the Willow Grove Mall's Macy's in time for the holiday season.

After going bankrupt in 2017, Toys R Us is back in Montgomery County as a store-within-a-store at Macy’s in Willow Grove Mall. Erin Arvedlund unwrapped the story in The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The iconic brand started reopening stores nationwide in July and will continue to open further locations through October 15, just in time for the lucrative holiday season. The brand’s retail spaces will range from 1,000 square feet to 10,000 square feet, depending on location.

A second in-market presence is also coming to the Cherry Hill Mall.

“As a Toys R Us kid, I could not be more excited to bring this beloved brand that so many of our customers know and love into Macy’s online and to our stores across America,” said Nata Dvir, Macy’s chief merchandising officer.

Macy’s signed the deal with WHP Global, which bought the Toys R Us brand in March last year. The toy company abandoned physical real estate after filing for bankruptcy.

“To build that back up is a daunting task, and they don’t need to do that,” said Steven Gartner, executive vice president, global retail services at CBRE, a Dallas commercial real estate services firm. “This shows we shouldn’t count out the nimbleness of good merchants like Macy’s.”
