The 2022–2023 school year at Paul V Fly Elementary School, Norristown, is sure to be memorable for the Schultz family. Christie Ileto, 6abc, learned how it spells the last two semesters for the clan’s matriarch and the first two for one of her offspring.

Susan Schultz, fourth-grade teacher at Paul Fly, has decided to make the upcoming scholastic year her last. She’s retiring at the end of the final dismissal bell next spring.

Her daughter, Julia is also a teacher. Last year, she substituted occasionally at Paul Fly. But when a full-time kindergarten spot opened, she nabbed it.

So for the next nine months, the Schultzes will share yin-and-yang professional milestones: Susan’s last stint as a professional educator and Julia’s first.

Referring to her mother’s career (and location), Julia commented, “I’ve always seen how much she loved Paul Fly and the Norristown School District. I’ve seen how great of an educator she’s been and it’s been such a part of me since I was little.

“So it’s awesome to be still here — to be with her for her last year and even when she leaves.”

The pair are spending time together this week onsite at the school, prepping for its Aug. 29 first day.

More on these related colleagues at Paul V Fly Elementary School is at 6abc.

Although the Shultzes will be leading K and Grade 4 students this year,
the school’s 2017 third graders showed themselves to be notably talented performers.
