Wawa in Limerick has received approval for its liquor license and is now planning to rearrange its interior to include a “beer cave” with seating that will be designated for beer and wine sales, writes Michael Tanenbaum for the Philly Voice.

This will be Wawa’s seventh location in Pennsylvania to sell wine and beer and is part of the chain’s gradual push to expand the number of its stores in the Keystone State that has liquor licenses.

The approval comes after a public hearing, where several objections were voiced, including over outdoor drinking, litter, and parking issues, as well as the impact of future development in the area. Ultimately, the board favored Wawa’s roadmap for the store.

Wawa will set up a “beer cave” in the store that will have seating for up to 30 people who will have to only consume alcohol in those seats if they plan to drink inside the store.

Drinking outside will not be allowed.

Wawa will also train its staff to make sure customers are of legal age to purchase alcohol and to learn how to deal with issues involving intoxicated customers.
