Exelon completed its separation into two companies earlier this week, and the newly formed Constellation Energy is now the owner of Limerick Generating Station in Montgomery County, writes Andrew Maykuth for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Exelon announced previously it would be spinning off its generation and marketing business that owns the largest fleet of nuclear power plants in the nation. Exelon shareholders received one share of the new company for every three shares of the original company they owned as of January 20.

In addition to Limerick Generating Station, Constellation owns nuclear power plants at 12 more locations. The company’s headquarters will stay in Baltimore, and its chief executive, Joseph Dominguez, was previously the CEO of Exelon Generation.

With a growing number of states setting greenhouse gas targets or clean energy goals, the newly formed Constellation is positioning itself as a leading provider of energy that is produced without emitting carbon dioxide.

“The future health and prosperity of our nation is inextricably linked to our success in eliminating carbon pollution, and our entire focus will be on helping our customers and communities achieve that goal,” said Dominguez.
