After 109 years of selling its products directly to dentists and dental offices, Plymouth Meeting-based Premier Dental Products has introduced its first direct-to-consumer product, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The medical device company recently unveiled a four-in-one oral care system called izzo that consists of an oscillating toothbrush, a polisher, a scaler, and a sanitizer.

“We’ve been developing dental products for 109 years, products that help the dentists — but really help the patient, the consumer,” said Julie Charlestein, Premier Dental’s CEO.

Several years ago, this fourth-generation family-run business developed an enamel polishing paste that patients could get through the dental office. The development of this product got Charlestein to consider the option of selling directly to consumers. Soon, a new product category was created: in-home dentistry.

People go to the dentist two times a year, said CEO Julie Charlestein, but “we want to be there for people for the 363 days you don’t go to the dentist.”

The company will sell izzo online through its e-commerce site. Premier Dental’s first D2C product has a price tag of $129.95.
