Philly Tech Trends: 4 Tips to Sound Better on Your Next Zoom Call

If one or two people have told you they have trouble making out what you are saying in Zoom meetings, you might just chalk it up to the troubles of chatting online.

But if it’s a common complaint you hear, there is probably a reason you are the common denominator.

Fortunately, there are several simple, no-cost ways you can improve your audio. The Washington Post recently had an article providing advice on the matter, with some good tips to make for a better experience.

Get Closer

It honestly could be as simple as you are too far from your microphone. You don’t want to get so close that people hear your breath on the microphone, but maybe you just need to close the distance a little more so you don’t have to project your voice as loud.

Wear Headphones

This applies to you, as well as whoever you are speaking to. Whoever is not wearing headphones is going to have their audio getting picked up by their microphone. That will obviously be disruptive to the meeting, so the fix could be as simple as plugging your headphones in for meetings.

Turn Off Video

Using both your video and your microphone eats up more bandwidth. If your internet connection is not strong, you are going to lose quality the more tasks you have going. So if the meeting is okay with it, you could improve your audio clarity by turning off your video.

Upgrade Your Equipment

If none of the free solutions did the job, you might not be able to avoid paying for some new technology. A dedicated microphone will likely help your audio quality tremendously. They can run around $100, but they are simple to set up and can fix your problem for good.

Give these ideas a try at your next meeting to see what helps. You might learn that your solution was much simpler than you imagined.

If you need more information for how to try any of these solutions, read the Washington Post’s article here.
