While the growth of the U.S. population has slowed to a crawl, coming in at just 0.35 percent from 2019 to 2020, some pockets of the country are still recording a steady increase in residents, with Montgomery County among them, according to a recently released report by Stacker.

To determine the fastest-growing counties in Pennsylvania and the country, Stacker used data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Counties are ranked based on the highest population growth from 2010 to 2020.

A county usually sees population growth called a bedroom community, which is a municipality with an atypically large commuting population to a nearby large city, which in this case would be Philadelphia.

Montco ranked in second place in Pennsylvania and No. 114 among all counties nationwide with a population change of 66,056 in that period.

Percentage-wise, Montgomery County recorded an 8.4 percent increase. This puts it in fifth place in Pennsylvania and No. 663 among all counties nationwide.

In 2020, the county had a population of 856,553, which made it the third-largest county in Pennsylvania and the 73rd largest county nationwide.

The neighboring counties in Pennsylvania also ranked high on the list, with Chester County coming in third, Bucks County ranking in ninth place, and Delaware County landing at No. 12.
