Black Friday is one of the country’s most treasured holiday traditions. With the ongoing threat of COVID-19, however, some retailers are upping the ante on luring in-person shoppers back to their brick-and-mortar stores. The following shopping tips from WalletHub may save consumers time, stress, and dollars.

According to a new WalletHub report, the best Black Friday discounts are available at:

  • Macy’s (average 2021 merchandise discount of 58.5 percent)
  • JCPenney (average 2021 merchandise discount of 57.6 percent)
  • Belk, a North Carolina-based chain (average 2021 merchandise discount of 56.7 percent)

If shoppers choose traditional stores for the experience (the decorations, the music, the thrill of the hunt), these may be reasonable motivations to head to a mall or shopping center.

But if it’s savings buyers seek, online is generally better, WalletHub found. Its data show that about 11 percent of items at major retailers will be more expensive than they are currently on priced on Amazon.

In addition, relative to their current prices, consumer packaged goods will offer the most value on Black Friday 2021. Apparel and accessories are close behind, followed by toys.

Meanwhile, computers and phones are most likely to have the least rewarding deals.

For less hectic holiday shopping, if you are looking for a gift card, Starbucks, Target, and Nike topped the list of 2021’s best gift cards.
