After closing the last Philadelphia-area Knit Wit in Bryn Mawr, 72-year-old Ann Gitter is ready to focus on crossing off items on her bucket list, writes Elizabeth Wellington for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Gitter’s fashion expertise guided the region through the last half-century of denim, from Gloria Vanderbilt and Seven to now Mother.

However, rising rents and the growing online shopping habits of customers have forced her to pull the plug on her Bryn Mawr location.

So for the future, she still plans to keep the Margate store open with her business partners Don Davidow and Bob Brandt but also to enjoy other endeavors.

“I want to stay in business; I don’t want to do it 24/7, 365 days a year anymore,” she said. “Retail is a brutal business. It’s all or nothing. If I want to take a trip, I want to go more than four days.”

And that is exactly what she is planning to do for the future as she focuses on her bucket list.

“Lots of trips,” she said. “All around the world. I want to see Asia, Africa, Vietnam, Cambodia. Everywhere.”
