Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg is proud to proclaim 2021 to be a record-breaking year for the office.

In the first six months of this year, the office recorded over 76,000 documents.

For comparison, in an average year, the office typically records around 100,000 documents a year.

Despite the pandemic and temporary shutdown of the real estate market, the Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds office recorded 30 percent more documents than the average during the first half of 2020.

For 2021, the office has recorded 76 percent of a typical year in just the first six months of the year.

“I am so proud of my team,” said Sorg, “We have been working diligently every day throughout this entire pandemic and were only closed for two days back in March 2020.”

As with most industries, the coronavirus pandemic has taken more work virtual, and the Recorder of Deeds office is seeing an increase in documents being sent through eRecording. Of the workload so far this year, 88 percent came through one of the office’s four eRecording partners.

All of the work being done in our office has meant more support being sent to schools, municipalities, and affordable housing programs during this critical time.

“Affordable housing programs help level the playing field,” said Sorg. “We are proud to be a partner to help people purchase their first home in Montgomery County.”

In the first half of 2021, the Recorder of Deeds office distributed about $38 million to local schools and municipalities and invested around $1.3 million in affordable housing programs.
