Three Lower Merion High School rowers have had a good showing at the USRowing Youth Nationals in Sarasota, Florida, according to a staff report from the PA Prep Live.

The school was represented by recent graduate Matthew Lexa, who will be attending the United States Naval Academy this fall, and juniors Annie Cloud and Caroline Burchette.

Lexa got in the semifinals by finishing eighth in the initial time trial. He then placed third and advanced to the finals where he came in fifth.

Meanwhile, Cloud and Burchette had to compete against a much larger field since USRowing does not have a lightweight category. The pair finished fourteenth out of the 38 teams in the initial time trial, which earned them a spot in the C final.

They ended up finishing the race in sixth place.

Prior to the USRowing Youth Nationals that took place on June 12 and 13, all three rowers took part in Scholastic Nationals at the end of May. During this event, Cloud and Burchette emerged as National Champions in the women’s lightweight double sculling competition.
