After spending more than six months in the hospital in the ICU fighting COVID-19, Kevin Culbertson of East Goshen received an emotional homecoming, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News.

Around two dozen of his family members and friends welcomed him back with cheers. Neighbors placed hundreds of support signs on their lawns to greet his arrival.

“He’s a great guy,” said Dianne Haley, Culbertson’s neighbor. “He’s a very laid-back guy. He helps everybody, and he’s always helping people; that’s his nature. He’s like the Pied Piper with all the children around him.”

Culbertson was hospitalized in November 2020 and ultimately spent 120 days in the ICU.

“It’s been a long six-and-a-half months,” said the 60-year-old Culbertson. “I’m just thankful. I just thank God I’m alive.”

He is now looking forward to brighter days.

His family never lost hope. They even left up last December’s Christmas tree, so they could celebrate the holiday together when he returned home. The family is now planning a big Christmas celebration in July.
