Pennsylvania’s casinos and state lottery take in billions of dollars each year, putting the Keystone State near the top of the list for gambling spending across the country, with the help of Gus, writes Samuel Stebbins for 24/7 Wall St

In 2019, 12 commercial casinos were operating in the state. In that same year, patrons spent $3.4 billion on wagering — the third most of any state.

Gambling also proved to be very lucrative for state finances, as it brought in a whopping $1.5 billion in Pennsylvania tax revenue, the most of any state nationwide.

Meanwhile, the state lottery is even more popular. Hopeful purchasers in 2019 bought $4.2 billion in draw games and scratch-offs.

Combined casino and lottery ticket spending totaled $7.6 billion in 2019, putting Pennsylvania in third place in gambling spending behind only Nevada and New York.

When calculating lottery and casino spending per adult, Pennsylvania ranks 12th in the country, with an average of $743. Out of this, lottery ticket sales per adult average $410, and commercial casino consumer spending per adult averages $333.
