April 9th COVID-19 Update: PA Ranks 14th For First Dose Vaccinations While Cases Continue to Trend Upwards in Montgomery County

For our April 9th COVID-19 update, Montgomery County reported 268 new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 52,877 countywide since March 7, 2020.

We now have been tracking COVID-19 for a full year in our area, and across the state.

There are currently 208 people hospitalized in Montgomery County hospitals due to severe COVID-19 symptoms. Of those COVID-19 patients, 17 are on ventilators.

There are 2 new COVID-19 deaths reported in Montgomery County since the last report. The current total deaths are numbered at 1,268 in Montgomery County, since March 7, 2020.

Vaccine Information
Montgomery County has information to determine if you are eligible and to answer any questions you may have. To learn more about the 1A or 1B or 1C criteria or request an appointment, click here.

On April 12, all Pennsylvanians in Phase 1C will be able to secure vaccine appointments.

In Montgomery County, 181,328 people have been partially vaccinated, and 114,392 have been fully vaccinated as of today.

In Pennsylvania, approximately 5,905,787 vaccines have been administered.

Pennsylvania COVID-19 Update:
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 4,746 new positive cases of COVID-19 on April 8th, 2021, bringing the statewide total to 1,059,044 cases.

There are 2,425 people currently hospitalized due to severe COVID-19 symptoms (an increase from last report), with 484 of those people in intensive care, an increase from last report.

There were 42 new COVID-19 deaths reported across the State (an increase from last report), bringing the State’s total death registry to 25,327.

Pennsylvania COVID-19 Vaccine Stats:

  • According to the PA Department of Health, as of April 8th, Pennsylvania has administered first doses of vaccine to 35.4% of its eligible population.
  • PA ranks 14th among all 50 states for first doses administered by percentage of population.
  • Vaccine providers have administered 5,905,787 total vaccine doses as of Thursday, April 8.
  • 2,125,826 people are fully vaccinated; with a seven-day moving average of more than 83,000 people per day receiving vaccinations.
  • 1,810,828 people are partially vaccinated, meaning they have received one dose of a two-dose vaccine.
  • 3,936,654 people have received at least their first dose.

Stay well:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  • Cover any coughs or sneezes with your elbow, not your hands.
  • Clean surfaces frequently.
  • Stay home to avoid spreading COVID-19, especially if you are unwell.
  • If you must go out, you are required to wear a mask when in a business or where it is difficult to maintain proper social distancing.

COVID-19 Testing in Montgomery County
Montgomery County’s testing sites are by appointment only. Register online or call 610-970-2937, and are self-administered. Additional testing sites, many of which operate over the weekend, can be found here.

Additional Information
Mask-wearing is required in all businesses and whenever leaving home. Consistent mask-wearing is critical to preventing the spread of COVID-19.

COVID-19 contact tracing efforts are ongoing and are critical to slowing the spread of the disease. The County has partnered with ACLAMO, Family Services of Montgomery County, Montgomery County OIC, and Visiting Nurses Association Community Services to help with contact tracing efforts.

Individuals who have been tested or identified as a direct contact of an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 and has received a call from any of our community partners may return the call to 610.278.5923 to find out their results or status. All information discussed on the call is strictly confidential and is only used to trace COVID-19 cases.
