German grocery chain Lidl, which has locations in Lansdale, Norristown, and Royersford, will raise the starting pay of its hourly Philadelphia area employees to $15 an hour from April 15, according to a staff report from 6abc.

The increase doubles the minimum wage in Pennsylvania, which is $7.25 an hour, the same as the federal rate.

According to Lidl, over 150 workers will see an immediate pay increase.

“Lidl is proud to offer our team members across the Philadelphia area the most competitive wage and benefits package in the region including comprehensive healthcare for all full and part time employees,” said Eoin Byrne, Chief Human Resources Officer at Lidl US.

Other than its Montgomery County stores, Lidl also has locations in Exton, Folsom, and two in Philadelphia.

“We’re proud to see Lidl join employers across the Philadelphia region that are taking action on raising wages-recognizing the dignity of work by paying their employees a living wage,” said Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney. “As Lidl demonstrates with this commitment, raising wages is not just good for workers, it’s good for business.”
