Whiz wit! It’s National Cheesesteak Day; Check Out Delco’s Cheesesteak Bowl

By

Echoing the former WIP Wing Bowl, Nick Reynolds, owner of Delco Steaks in nearby Delco’s Broomall, will mark National Cheesesteak Day with a Cheesesteak Bowl, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

National Cheesesteak Day takes place today, Wednesday, March 24.

The Cheesesteak Bowl, 5 to 8 p.m., is happening at the Splash Swim Club, 2705 Sunset Blvd.  in Broomall.

WIP’s Wing Bowl was an annual wing-eating contest that grew into an over-the-top spectacle before it was shut down in late 2018.

Reynolds hopes to fill that void with the Cheesesteak Bowl. Seventy five people, including Wing Bowl alumni Matt “Sloth” Dutton and Bill “El Wingador” have entered.

The contestants will each try to eat Delco Steaks’ creation, The Delco, a two-foot cheesesteak with 1-1/2 pounds of meat. The 10 fastest eaters will move to a second round where a second two-foot cheesesteak is ready for consumption.

A championship belt and an all-expenses-paid trip to Cancun will go to the person who eats The Delco the fastest in round two.

The event is free to enter, but donations are being accepted for Coaches vs. Cancer. Former Eagles tight end Brent Celek will be “commissioner.”

Delco Steaks ran a similar contest at their July 11, 2020 grand opening.
