The number of COVID-19 infections is once again on the rise in Montgomery County and the state, pushing Pennsylvania to over 1 million confirmed cases, according to the staff report from WFMZ 69 News.

In the last two weeks, daily infections have risen by over ten percent, with hospitalizations also growing higher.

“All of our numbers are going the wrong way,” said Dr. Valerie Arkoosh, chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners.

Additionally, Pennsylvania has learned that it will receive significantly fewer fresh doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine than was initially projected by the federal government. Instead of the announced 200,000, the state will receive just 66,000 doses. State officials were planning to use those doses at mass vaccination sites in the Philadelphia region.

In addition to complaints over the insufficient vaccine allocations, Montgomery along with its neighboring counties have been requesting the vaccines be distributed through local health departments.

The county officials said they have the sufficient capacity to deliver thousands of shots per day and can target the most vulnerable population with their shots. Despite this, the state rebuffed the requests.

“We are incredibly frustrated,” said Arkoosh.
