Pharmacist Mayank Amin had to put his event-planning skills to the ultimate test last week after suddenly learning that 1,200 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were arriving at Skippack Pharmacy during the time when a major snowstorm was expected in the area, writes Jeff Gammage for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

So he quickly came up with the plan to organize a massive vaccination event at the local firehouse on Sunday with the help of other pharmacists, students, and volunteers.

Amin, a Lansdale resident, decided to reopen Skippack Pharmacy two years ago. The 50-year community institution was previously owned by CVS, which took the assets and left behind an empty building.

Amin recognized both the need and opportunity at the time, but did not anticipate that his independent pharmacy would take a leading role in the community amid a deadly pandemic.

While organizing the vaccine drive, he used his experience as a wedding and large event organizer he has developed through his company, Platinum Dream Events LLC. His focus was on ensuring every vaccine is accounted for.

“There is no picking and choosing,” he said. “We’re going by the guidelines and protocols.”
