Pennsylvania still does not know when an increased shipment of shots will be available for counties that are running out of first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, such as Montgomery County, writes Erin McCarthy for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

According to Department of Health Senior Advisor Lindsey Mauldin, Montgomery County is among those that have received far fewer doses last week than usual.

“As the supply goes up, those [weekly dose] numbers will continue to go up as well,” said Mauldin. “We have to distribute as equitably as possible across the state and so unfortunately when we do that, some of the supply goes down in other areas.”

The county received only 1,000 doses last week, which is far from enough for one of the state’s most populous counties.

Mauldin emphasized that the state needs to receive more vaccines from the federal government, especially as the supply has been stretched thin by more providers requesting doses now than in previous weeks.

So far in Pennsylvania, 1,164,600 vaccine doses have been administered to 918,210.
