Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Gale is the latest Republican to join the already crowded race for the position of Pennsylvania governor, writes Rachel Ravina for The Times Herald.

“As governor, I will hold bad Republicans accountable not just by naming names, but by supporting primary challenges against those who undermine a common-sense conservative agenda,” said Gale, “which must begin with election reform.”

This includes the elimination of the state’s 50 days of no-excuse mail-in voting as well as adding a requirement for photo-identification to be shown on Election Day at polls.

Gale, a Plymouth Township native, graduated from Temple University’s Fox School of Business. In 2015, he was elected to serve as a member of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners.

The following year he endorsed the then-presidential candidate Donald Trump and remained a staunch supporter during his four years as president.

“To continue advancing the Trump movement, we must remain committed to draining the swamp within the GOP, which is best accomplished by winning Republican primaries,” Gale said.

Gale said that his brother, Sean, will also run for a seat in the U.S. Senate to represent the commonwealth.
