Alan R. Tripp, a great writer, broadcaster, and advertising executive, passed away on December 24.

Alan R. Tripp, a prolific writer, broadcaster, and advertising executive, died on December 24 at Beaumont at Bryn Mawr retirement community at 103, writes Gary Miles for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Throughout his long life, Tripp lined up achievements at an astonishing rate. He published four books, helped with a fifth, worked on famous ad campaigns for Good & Plenty candy, among others, and even cut a music CD when he was 102.

He was also a professor and a leader of the women’s movement in the 1970s and 1980s.

“He had a clear vision as to how to live to 103,” said his granddaughter, Dr. Abigail Tripp Berman. “He was active. He was incredibly positive. He had real intelligence and emotional intelligence. He had balance in his life.”

However, writing was his greatest passion. His books ranged from a business tome, Millions from the Mind: How to turn your invention — or someone else’s — into a fortune to a collection of witty rhymes titled Who Needs Hallmark?

The latter was dedicated to his wife, Maggie. The pair were married for 73 years until her death in 2014.
