Target in King of Prussia is one of many stores nationwide that are seeing a shortage of Christmas decorations as customers rush to buy any lights, ornaments, and trees that they can still find, writes Sarah Nassauer for The Wall Street Journal.

Retailers all over the country have underestimated the demand for holiday décor, which is selling out faster than usual. Walmart, Costco, and At Home Group are just some of the retailers that carry holiday items and could not have anticipated the surge fueled by pandemic when ordering their products nearly a year ago.

The resulting imbalance has left some locations with completely empty shelves along with no way of refilling them due to the pandemic-related disruption to supply chains.

Some retailers have even reached out to Christmas Central, a primarily online seller of lights, artificial trees, and holiday décor in hopes of securing some inventory. However, the company has had to decline their requests since it is also seeing a huge uptick in sales that have nearly doubled compared to last year.
