Sonny Ho, a Jenkintown resident who owns 45 Dunkin’ stores with his Northeast Donut Shops Management company, recently donated $100,000 to the Fund for the School District of Philadelphia, writes Kevin Riordan for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Ho, who was born in Vietnam but is ethnically Chinese, immigrated to the United State with his family when he was 13. His first job several years later was at a Dunkin’ Donuts store doing the cleanup.
Now as CEO of his own company, Ho donated through the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation. The money will help provide various fresh produce, meats, and other nutritious ingredients to food-insecure families who live close to the seven neighborhood public schools throughout the city.
“It feels great to be able to give back to my community,” said Ho.
Alice Ho, director of the management corporation, called Meaningful Meals a dream come true for mothers who are worried about how they are going to keep their children fed and healthy with the pandemic happening.
“We’re happy we can help whoever needs help right now,” she said. “The point is, the community supports us, and at a difficult time, we are supporting them.”
