Montgomery County Community College Students Win Big at National Business Competition
Montgomery County Community College students were among the big winners at the recent Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Experience, writes Diane VanDyke for the mc3.edu.
Competing against more than 950 business students from other colleges from across the country, members of MCCC’s chapter of Phi Beta Lambda won 14 awards in ten categories.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s PBL conference was held online but the structure remained similar to an in-person event.
“If you had a presentation, you had a set date and time to log on through zoom,” said Nicoletta Pelchat, co-president of MCCC’s PBL Chapter. “There were up to 100 persons per event, and the top 15 were selected for a second interview. The top 10 finalists received a trophy. Every person (at MCCC) who competed placed in an event.”
Pelchat, who earned an associate’s degree in Liberal Studies last year and an associate’s degree in Business Administration this year, placed fourth in the Future Business Executive category. This fall, she plans to major in Business Administration at Penn State Abington.
“PBL helped me figure out what I wanted to do,” she said.
