Lights of Hope Event at the Elmwood Park Zoo Celebrates Those Recovering from Addiction
The fourth annual Lights of Hope Event held at Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown brought together residents and visitors on September 10, once again shining a spotlight on recovery and addiction, writes Rachel Ravina for the Montgomery News.
“This annual event is held to celebrate those in recovery and to remember those who have lost their lives to the disease of addiction,” said Montgomery County Commissioners’ Chairwoman Valerie Arkoosh.
Attendees got the opportunity to decorate a luminaria bag, listen to music, and hear from Keynote Speaker Tony Luke, Jr. The county’s Department of Human Services’ Office of Drug and Alcohol also took part in the event. And like in the previous three years, the evening culminated with a luminaria ceremony.
However because the event took place during the on-going pandemic, participants had to comply with several health and safety protocols, including social distancing and wearing masks. The event’s capacity was also limited to 250 people with masks and gloves made available for all the participants.
