With more food being consumed at home due to the pandemic, Horsham-based Grupo Bimbo SAB de CV is experiencing a significant surge in demand for its hamburger and hot-dog buns, writes Eric Schroeder for the Baking Business.
The company’s sales in these two bun categories rose by more than 21 percent in the 52 weeks ended July 12, reaching $479.17 million. Other fresh rolls, buns, and croissants also advanced by 5.4 percent to $402.28 million.
The company had limited new product launches and focused on increasing the production of its staple food categories during the early stages of the pandemic to meet the growing demand.
Now this is changing with Bimbo starting to roll out new products.
In late July, the company announced the national expansion of its Thomas’ Mini Croissants. An 11-oz bag containing around 19 rolls can be found in the bread aisle.
“With the national expansion of our Thomas’ Mini Croissants, we find comfort in knowing that families across the country can enjoy this delicious on-the-go option without sacrificing real, high-quality ingredients,” said Eduardo Zarate, senior director of marketing for Thomas’.
