Two Montgomery County restaurants have earned spots on the list of the 50 Best Restaurants in Philadelphia, write Kae Lani Palmisano, Adam Erace, and Jason Sheehan for Philadelphia Magazine.

Ranked No. 24, La Baja in Ambler, run by chef Dionicio Jiménez, delivers bold Mexican cuisine.

Jiménez and his team create unique dishes that merge unexpected flavors, like chile rellenos with Thai curry or short ribs braised in Mexican chocolate atop Italian risotto.

Other standout offerings are the roasted duck bao buns and foie gras with mole and smoked egg yolks. The restaurant is daring an as such offers a memorable experience unlike any other in the Philadelphia region.

At Bala Cynwyd’s Lark, celebrity chef Nick Elmi delivers easy parking, beautiful patio vistas, and a menu that goes well beyond the simple roasted half-chickens, dull crudos, and basic pastas.

Instead, the restaurant serves crudos paired with a chilled honeydew consommé and toasted hazelnuts, and pastas that range from cavatelli with escargot and bone marrow to pork cheek agnolotti with Taleggio.

Every dish is at the same time approachable while elevated, to create a dining experience that is both comforting and refined.
