Crooked Eye in Hatboro is one of many craft breweries across the state that have suffered another devastating blow with the latest set of COVID-19 related restrictions, writes Neil Strebig for the Ellwood City Ledger.

After having to rely on to-go sales following the initial March shutdown, most craft breweries with a taproom saw a brief surge in sales when the state moved into the yellow and green phases.

But last month, indoor dining capacity was reduced to 25 percent and the requirement was introduced that all sales of beverages have to be combined with the purchase of a meal.

“If this becomes the new normal and we never get back to full capacity, I do not see how we could survive,” said Paul Hogan, Crooked Eye co-owner.

The brewery opened six years ago and did not offer any food sales before the pandemic. And with the current restrictions in place, its indoor capacity reduced from 81 to 15 people.

“It’s never been easy owning a business like this, but now with all the extra regulations, it makes it very difficult to make a living,” said Hogan.
