Dr. Kirk Brandow, a plastic surgeon in Bala Cynwyd, is busier than ever as a result of an unexpected plastic surgery boom caused by the coronavirus pandemic, writes Stephanie Stahl for CBS Philly.

“It’s an unbelievable phenomenon,” said Brandow. “I don’t understand it, but I’m very happy about that.”

One of the reasons for the boom is the fact that people are spending a lot of time in online meetings and they do not like what they are seeing on Zoom. Additionally, with more downtime, people have more time to recover. Concealing a recovery in public is also easier.

“They can sort of be undercover with a big pair of sunglasses and a mask,” said Brandow.

And because of things such as canceled vacations, patients have more disposable income to spend on other things, including cosmetic procedures.

The most popular options are Botox, surgical interventions, facelifts, and breast augmentation.

Brandow increased safety measures to protect the health of his patients. This includes an obligatory mask and increased COVID-19 testing, sanitizing, and spacing between patients.

“It made me feel safer to do the surgery,” said patient Laura Lawrie.
