Shipley School Grad Gaining Attention for Role in Netflix’s ‘Hollywood’
David Corenswet, a Shipley School graduate, is gaining attention for his role in Netflix’s “Hollywood,” the new 1940s-set Ryan Murphy miniseries, writes Ellen Gray for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
In the show, Corenswet acts alongside a number of Hollywood greats such as Patti LuPone, Holland Taylor, and Jim Parsons. The 26-year-old also played an important role in Murphy’s other Netflix show, “The Politician.”
Corenswet got an early start in acting. When he was 9, he made his debut at Arden Theatre in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons. He then continued acting and after graduating from Shipley, he spent a year at the University of Pennsylvania.
“Penn was my choice, basically, because even though I knew I loved acting and wanted to keep doing it, I just had no idea what the life of an actor looks like day to day,” he said.
Still, he decided that “every year that I was at Penn, I would apply to Juilliard.” And after just one year, he was accepted for the famously selective drama program.
Today he is putting what he had learned into practice, and gaining fame as one of Murphy’s leading men.
