In the midst of the coronavirus outbreak, old-fashioned milk delivery is experiencing a renaissance in the Philadelphia region, writes Frank Fitzpatrick for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The bygone tradition of American milkman has been revived through a new breed of milk-delivery companies by the combination of pandemic-related lockdowns, food shortage worries, the booming delivery economy, and a pivot toward farm-to-table freshness.

Logical Living of Kennett Square is currently delivering milk from Avondale to Downingtown.   Lancaster County-based Doorstep Dairy has also started carrying milk to parts of Chester and Montgomery Counties. Meanwhile, Wawa is using third-party delivery services to offer milk delivery in 95 percent of its operating area.

The business of milk delivery is booming so much that Logical Living has doubled its business in recent months. The company is selling milk from Bailey’s Dairy, a Pocopson Township dairy. Then Logical Living picks up the product on Monday and Tuesday and delivers it for the rest of the week.

“We deliver Wednesday, Thursday and Friday,” said Kevin Quinlan, the company’s owner. “We used to do it mostly in the mornings but now it’s all day. We start about 8 a.m. and finish around 5 or 6 p.m.”
