In Pennsylvania, 5.7 percent of female workers are entrepreneurs, which is two percent below the national average, according to a new report by Volusion.

In Pennsylvania, 5.7 percent of female workers are entrepreneurs, which is two percent below the national average, according to a new report by Volusion.

Full-time female entrepreneurs – defined as self-employed workers in their own incorporated or unincorporated businesses – earn an adjusted median income of $40,756. The actual median income is slightly lower, at $39,900 which is also nearly identical to the national average of $40,000.

The average median income for female entrepreneurs in the Keystone State is lower than that of full-time female employees, which currently stands at $45,000.

Female entrepreneurs earn similar pay to women working at private companies, but less than those working for nonprofits, as well as state and local government and the federal government.

In the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington metro area, 5.6 percent of female workers are entrepreneurs. Their adjusted median income is higher than the state average at $42,694, which puts the Philadelphia area at No. 20 out of the large metros in the country with the most successful female entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, the actual median income in the Philadelphia area is at $45,000, somewhat higher than the national average.
