New movies are available to stream, but can we see a flick outside of our own living rooms?

The answer to this new question is an old-time solution – the drive-in movie.

ABC News reports drive-in movie theaters are experiencing a resurgence in the era of COVID-19. Three drive-in theaters in Pennsylvania are offering films both new and old.

Shankweiler’s Drive-In Theatre, in Orefield, is the oldest drive-in theater on the planet, according to DriveInMovie.com. The website, which unites fans with nostalgia, boasts a 1934 opening for Shankweiler’s.

Looking for a drive-in with another unique distinction? Becky’s Drive In, located in Walnutport, was recognized by USA Today as a top-ten drive-in.

Kick up the retro vibe at The Mahoning Drive-In, which still shows movies from a reel-to-reel projector. Located in Lehighton, the venue even allows well-behaved pets.

Each theater is showing movies the weekend of June 5th. Mahoning offers online ticket sales, while Shankweiler’s and Becky’s have an on-site box office. All three venues accept cash and credit cards, and each has a concession stand. Bathrooms are available.

Movies are projected through FM radio stations at each location, with Becky’s offering radio rentals for $3.

Leave the booze at home, and hit theater websites for COVID-19 rules. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends traveling close to home. This minimizes stops along your trek.

A few tips for the uninitiated: Know when your movie starts! Many movies simply begin at dusk. Arrive early as admission lines tend to be long, and bring entertainment for the kids while waiting for your flick. Going without the kids? Just remember other viewers can see into your car.

In other words, keep your hands to yourself, or next summer you’ll be watching cartoons at the drive-in.
